That’s how in Malcolm Gladwell’s book The Tipping Point, he describes the concept of “the tipping point” as “magic threshold when an idea, trend, or social behavior crosses a threshold, tips and spread like wild fire.”
And from the data, family estrangement is indeed spreading like wildfire. According to Psychology Today, at least one in four people experience estrangement from a family member and one in ten report estrangement from a parent or a child.
If you count yourself among us, know that you are not alone. There are resources out there ranging from individual therapy, support groups and yoga to somatic therapy, homeopathy and flower essences - basically anything that gives you a sense of peace, self acceptance and self love is the medicine you need. I’ll also include a few of my favorite books on the topic with each post because I know how important hearing the stories of others has been in my own journey.
