1. This Yuzu Ginger Tonic

It’s not easy shaking off the despair lately. Maine has been in the single digits, with back to back snow storms, and the United States feels like an unrecognizable hellscape of chaos and fury. On my most fragile days, the ones where I’ve been up half the night with a fussy baby and the morning’s news sets my teeth on edge, I know I can spare five minutes to brew up this delicious little tonic. The yuzu is like liquid sunshine, ginger calms a churning stomach and the red dates and goji berries provide nourishment to the kidneys - believed to house your life force energy. And we sure as hell need our life force energy intact now, more than ever.

2. This Poem

Try to Praise the Mutilated World By Adam Zagajewski

Remember June's long days,

and wild strawberries, drops of rosé wine.

The nettles that methodically overgrow

the abandoned homesteads of exiles.

You must praise the mutilated world.

You watched the stylish yachts and ships;

one of them had a long trip ahead of it,

while salty oblivion awaited others.

You've seen the refugees going nowhere,

you've heard the executioners sing joyfully.

You should praise the mutilated world.

Remember the moments when we were together

in a white room and the curtain fluttered.

Return in thought to the concert where music flared.

You gathered acorns in the park in autumn

and leaves eddied over the earth's scars.

Praise the mutilated world

and the gray feather a thrush lost,

and the gentle light that strays and vanishes

and returns.

3. This Cushiony Cleansing Balm

I’ve poured more jars of Rosehip Regenerating Cleanser this month than any other month in our company’s 24 year history. 672 jars. That’s 14 batches, over the last three weeks. I chalk it up to a deep thirst for comfort and it’s one I share. The TLC of a good cleansing balm, massaged into parched skin, tight jaws and that little powder keg point of tension between your eye brows can’t be overstated.
